I was researching solar and reroofing options and even though I did not choose to work with this company in the end, I felt I had to give them good reviews for their help along the process. I had to get many quotes to understand the market and my options so I had to turn down all but 1 company in the end. But I do appreciate the information provided by Art Balaoro. Email communication is quick, clear, and informative. Answered my questions on roofing to work with a solar system for me and was very professional and patient. I think they would've been a solid choice too. I decided to work with a local family-owned roofer whose owner is the roofer and came in person.

We had Clean Roofing on as the company to do a major roof project for an expected future solar installation. Miguel Huerta and his crew did an excellent job on the project. We needed the whole roof replaced with new plywood, shingles and gutters and their team worked fast. It took a week for everything to be complete and they didn't leave a mess at all. Any complications that came up, they communicated it with us and resolved it in a timely manner. The quality of the roof overall is great and looks beautiful.

I chose Clean Roofing for a full roof replacement going from wooden shaker panels to composite asphalt. Clean Roofing also has a sister company called Clean Solar, and my initial contact was with Art (sales) who mostly answered my solar questions but was more than well versed in answering general questions on roofing as well. He was professional and didn't try to cross sell services, nor was he pushy when I was hesitating on such a costly expense. Ultimately, choose Clean Roofing over other companies because of the professionalism working with Art, the follow-ups, and the detailed quote provided. Their quote came in right in the middle of all the bids, and they have their master installer warranties to put the cherry on top.

Service:
I landed Rodrigo as the foreman and Miguel as my project manager. Both were communicative, and informed me of any issues as the project went along. I always have a healthy bit of skepticism when contractors leave the door open for "unforeseeable issues", but I felt they were very honest in terms of what absolutely needed to be repaired vs what could've waited. My project was close to 40k, but we only saw about a 1k over-run due to dry-rot. They took plenty of pictures of the problem areas, and gave me the option if I wanted to replace.

Miguel followed up daily to ensure I didn't have any questions, and Rodrigo led his crew with a professionalism that inspired confidence in his craftsmanship. He was also very joyful, and that's awesome to see someone that loves their job so much.

Cleanliness:
Re-roofing is a loud and messy job, but everyday I came home to a clean worksite. The floors were all blown clean, and they neatly made a pile of their tools in a corner of the driveway for use the next day. I have an exposed garage, and the team offered to tarp my belongings before the project started, and tried their best to clean the garage of all the debris that fell by the end of the project.

There was a bit of an obstruction that found it's way into my bathroom exhaust vent, but Rodrigo took care of it right away when he was back on site the next day by blowing it out.

Quality:
From what I could tell, the roof looks clean. It passed inspection on first try, and all flashings look properly cut. I guess I'll only truly know when it's rainy season again, but we love how clean the roof looks for now!

Would highly recommend Clean Roofing, their service was top notch and I feel confident in their work.

[UPDATED REVIEW]
Following the initial unfortunate incident, the company's president Micah personally reached out and assured that he would oversee the roof replacement process. Although their bid was not the most economical, I chose this company over several others due to positive reviews highlighting exceptional service.

The day of the teardown proceeded seamlessly. The team arrived promptly in the morning and removed the old roof within approximately three hours. Later that afternoon, new materials were transported onto the roof in preparation for an early start the next day. Anticipating potential rain, the crew covered the roof with felt paper to prevent any water leakage into the home. The re-roofing was efficiently completed within two days, and the team executed an outstanding job.

They undoubtedly went above and beyond, even touching up paint on trim and fascia boards, as well as patching small areas of stucco to ensure the roof's optimal appearance. Throughout the process, I experienced excellent communication, decision-making autonomy, outstanding customer service, and superior workmanship quality.

I would highly recommend Clean Roofing!

[PREVIOUS REVIEW]
I wanted to replace my roof and asked for a quote, The estimator visited the property and did an review and told me that i had 2 layers of roof and he would send an updated quote in next couple of hours. I was in a hurry to get the process started so i followed up the next day when the quote was not sent. They replied back with the updated quote.

I noticed that quote still mentioned 1 layer of roof removal. I asked for the correction on thursday and followed up again on monday when i didn't get a response on Friday.

i got a response but the price changed again, i was under the impression the initial updated quote was including the price of two roof layers. I expressed my displeasure at the of me having to follow up a lot and how this process has not been good so far.

But that's when i call back and had person yell at me, accusing me that i called off work hours and was expecting a response over the weekend. I never called that company or any person in that company but only have incoming calls. But the experience of person from a company yell at you because i expressed that i was having a bad experience in communication is a first me. All this before signing a contract, think of what you can expect after signing the contract. This should tell you of what kinds customer service you can expect from this company.

They are arrogant, non responsive and really difficult to work with. From my experience I would not work with this company, and advice other to do the same.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Both systems have strengths, but the right choice depends on the type of building. Flat and low-slope roofs are common on commercial buildings because they allow easy installation of HVAC units, solar panels, and drainage systems. They also cost less to install on large surface areas. Gable roofs are more common on residential homes because they handle rainwater quickly and offer attic space. For commercial properties in San Jose, flat roofs are usually more practical and cost-effective.
A flat roof can last anywhere from 15 to 30 years depending on the material used, the quality of installation, and how well the roof is maintained. TPO and PVC typically last 20 to 30 years, EPDM can reach 25 years or more, and modified bitumen usually lasts 15 to 25 years. Regular inspections and proper drainage can extend the lifespan of any flat roofing system.
Repairing a flat roof begins with a full inspection to locate the exact source of the leak or surface damage. The common steps include sealing cracks, patching punctures, repairing seams, clearing drains, and applying high-quality waterproof coatings. For commercial buildings, repairs may also involve reinforcing weak areas or restoring protective layers. The key is to fix the specific problem and prevent water from entering the membrane again.
The best material depends on your building’s needs and long-term goals. TPO is popular for its energy efficiency and durability. PVC offers strong chemical resistance and long-term performance for commercial buildings. EPDM rubber is a flexible and affordable choice with a long service life. Modified bitumen is a reliable option for smaller roofs, and silicone coatings work well when restoring older roofs. A professional inspection helps determine the ideal system for your property.
The most common ventilation openings for flat roofs include roof vents, edge vents, soffit vents, and mechanical ventilation units. These openings allow heat and moisture to escape, which prevents condensation, mold growth, and premature roofing damage. Proper ventilation improves energy efficiency and helps extend the lifespan of the flat roofing system.
Commercial buildings use flat roofs because they are cost-effective to install and maintain over large areas. They also provide a stable surface for equipment like air conditioners, skylights, solar panels, and drainage systems. Flat roofs make commercial construction easier and more affordable, which is why most business properties in San Jose rely on them.
Repairing a commercial flat roof involves identifying the root cause of the issue, which may include membrane damage, standing water, cracks, or worn-out coatings. Repairs often include patching, resealing seams, replacing flashing, improving drainage, or applying a new coating layer. Commercial repairs need careful attention because larger roofs are more prone to hidden leaks and structural wear.
Snow and ice can create additional weight on a flat roof and may lead to ponding water when melting begins. Repeated freeze and thaw cycles can cause small cracks in the membrane and stress the seams. Proper drainage, insulation, and winter maintenance help prevent damage and extend the life of the roofing system. In San Jose, roof stress from snow is far less common, but cold weather can still affect older roofs.
A well-installed flat roof should last 20 to 30 years with proper maintenance. Material type, climate conditions, and drainage design all play a major role. Roofs with poor slope or clogged drains tend to wear out earlier. With routine inspections and timely repairs, many flat roofs outperform their expected lifespan.
Flat roofs usually leak when water cannot drain properly or when the roofing membrane becomes damaged over time. Common causes include clogged drains, aging materials, loose seams, punctures from foot traffic, standing water, and worn flashing around edges or roof penetrations. Regular inspections and timely maintenance are the best ways to prevent leaks and protect the roof structure.
